Community Organizer / Environmental Advocate
A Climate to Thrive (ACTT) is growing rapidly, and we’re looking for an inspired and effective community organizer to assist with projects and events part-time this fall and winter. Must be able to work independently with great attention to detail and excellent people skills, including interpersonal and written communication and working with volunteers. ACTT will negotiate a job description and contract with the right person to work an average of 10-15 flexible hours per week during the off-season from early fall through late spring, with a possible option for extending.
Opportunities exist to help with one or more of the following …
Expand the Sustainable MDI restaurant and cafe pledge program to reach more restaurants, schools, the hospital, and the hospitality and retail sectors for next summer - and possibly help get an industrial composting operation here on MDI.
Expand Solarize MDI with a focus on businesses.
Organize Lunch & Learn workshops with employees of large businesses, organizations, and churches to raise awareness & inspire sustainable practices, including energy efficiency, in homes & workplaces.
Expand youth involvement by supporting school green teams & partnering with schools, COA, and the National Park on climate education.
Organize a big January event to expand our reach, inspire and educate the community, and raise funds for our work.
Fundraising/grant writing skills could also be helpful, though not required.
