ACTT is hiring!

Dear ACTT Community,

I’m Beth Woofolk, the Manager of Renewable Energy Planning and Policy for A Climate to Thrive. I joined the ACTT team in late summer 2020, and, over the past five years, I have had the pleasure of collaborating closely with the MDI communities and statewide networks. Together, we’ve implemented locally owned renewable energy projects and advocated for statewide policies that allow these projects to advance. Building a strong, empowered, energy-literate community is critical, especially right now, given the barriers against the energy transition that we are seeing at the federal level.

Over the past several months, I have been planning a life transition as my partner prepares to leave the island for law school. I have been collaborating with our Executive Director, Johannah Blackman to strategize this transition with minimal disruption to the organization. We have identified a pathway to allow ample time for me to support a new team member as they join the ACTT team. Over the next seven months, I am excited to advance next steps on current projects while working to pass them into the hands of our new team member.

I am incredibly grateful for the time I have spent at ACTT over the past five years. Working with the community to advocate for a stronger and more equitable energy future across Maine has brought me immense joy.

Thank you!

Beth

A note from ACTT's Executive Director, Johannah Blackman

Before I was invited to take the position of Interim Executive Director at A Climate to Thrive, Beth Woolfolk was already working with the organization as Solar Coordinator. Over the past five years, Beth has transformed the way ACTT works on energy projects and policy. She has deepened our understanding of why we approach energy work in the way that we do: with a focus on community ownership and energy resilience, affordability, and reliability. She has fostered networks of collaboration with key partners throughout Maine and beyond. She has provided focused, detailed support for island homeowners, nonprofits, businesses, and towns as they transition to renewable energy and has worked with federal agencies and national labs to think broadly about the transition to renewable energy for both Mount Desert Island and Maine as a whole.

We are profoundly grateful to Beth for the heart and vision she has poured into her time at ACTT. It is no surprise that she would approach planning for her upcoming move away from Mount Desert Island - and therefore out of her position at ACTT - with the same level of intention and care. We are so happy to have the opportunity to conduct a thorough hiring process for a new Manager of Community Energy Planning and Policy (you can find the job description here) and for Beth to be able to have significant overlap with a new team member.

We know Beth will stay connected and involved as a friend of ACTT for many years to come. We look forward to updating the community as the hiring process moves forward and to celebrating Beth together in the coming months.

Johannah Blackman, Executive Director
