This webinar will explore Community Choice Aggregation (CCA), a policy tool recently enabled in Maine that allows municipalities and tribes to purchase electricity on behalf of their residents. CCAs open up new energy choices for Maine communities. In this webinar, we’ll explore what CCAs are and what they mean for Maine communities. A panel of CCA leaders from across the country will discuss lessons learned from implementation in other states, how this model can be used to procure local, renewable energy, and innovative approaches CCAs are exploring to maximize community benefits.

Speaker Bios:

Meghan Shaw works on Climate Strategy & Implementation for the City of Cambridge, MA.  Since 2010, she has led the City’s residential and small business energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.  She launched the City’s municipal aggregation program, Cambridge Community Electricity in 2017 with a focus on bringing more renewable energy to the community’s 40,000 participants.  She also supports policymaking for Cambridge’s Net Zero Action Plan for buildings, focused on eliminating climate change emissions from the residential and small-to-medium business sectors.

Cody Hooven is a dynamic public policy leader in the fields of energy, climate, and sustainable development. She is known for her entrepreneurial abilities and community mindedness. Her success on major public policies, including leading the formation of the second largest community choice energy (CCE) program in California, has gained respect from local communities to national leaders. After leading many successful public policy efforts, she now supports others in doing big things through Evolution Affairs, a firm she co-founded. This work includes her role as Executive director for Community Choice Energy Alliance, the only national CCE trade association.

Rob McCracken serves as the Energy Manager in the City of Cincinnati’s Office of Environment & Sustainability. His work focuses on implementing the climate action goals contained in the Green Cincinnati Plan by procuring renewable sources of energy, advancing efforts to improve the city’s building stock, and transitioning to a zero-emission fleet. He has a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University and a Master of Public Affairs from the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University.
